Fifty Migrants Test Positive for COVID-19 After Rescue in Porto Empedocle
On February 22, the 'Asso 30' lifeboat successfully rescued 232 migrants, who disembarked in Porto Empedocle. Among this group, approximately 50 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19. After following the necessary identification protocols, unaccompanied minors were placed in the Villa Sikania di Siculiana migrant reception center. Simultaneously, the adult migrants, including the 50 positive cases, were moved to the Allegra quarantine ship to adhere to the required anti-COVID quarantine measures. This coordinated effort is being managed by the Agrigento prosecutor's office.

On February 22, 2021, the Italian rescue vessel 'Asso Trenta' docked at Porto Empedocle, having successfully rescued 232 migrants just two days prior. Originally slated to arrive on February 21, the ship encountered unforeseen delays caused by inclement weather. Upon arrival, the migrants boarded the ship underwent mandatory Covid-19 testing. Prior to this, two migrants had been urgently medevaced to Lampedusa due to medical emergencies. Following its mission, the 'Asso Trenta' set sail again at 3 PM, making its way to Marsaxlokk. The ship successfully arrived at the Marsa Oil Tanking Jetty on November 4th at 7:20 AM.
