On April 23, 2013, a significant search operation was launched by the U.S. Coast Guard and the AMVER vessel, 'Maersk Virtue,' for a 47-year-old crew member who reportedly fell overboard from the 'Daniela Bolten.' This incident occurred approximately 1,900 miles east of Cape Hatteras. The crew member was last seen on the evening of April 22, around 5:30 p.m., and the missing report was filed by the master of the 'Daniela Bolten' at 11 a.m. the following day. The Coast Guard's Fifth District received the initial alert through a satellite distress signal, along with an email from the Rescue Coordination Center Delgada based in the Azores. In response to the emergency, the Coast Guard deployed an HC-130 Hercules aircraft from Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, to conduct aerial searches over the route taken by the 'Daniela Bolten,' which was en route from Terneuzen to New Orleans. Crewmembers aboard the 'Daniela Bolten' also participated in the extensive search effort.
