Gantry Crane Incident Affects Container Ship 'Thalassa Tyhi' at Hamburg Port
On June 19, 2017, the container vessel 'Thalassa Tyhi' encountered an unfortunate incident while docked at the HHLA Container Terminal Burchard Quay in Hamburg, following its arrival from Felixstowe. The incident occurred during cargo operations that began on June 20 when the ship sustained damage due to an interaction with a gantry crane, which struck the smokestack of the vessel. By May 22 at 2:30 p.m., the situation necessitated the vessel to be towed by four Kotug tugs, as it was unable to operate under its own power. The 'Thalassa Tyhi' was subsequently brought to the Athabaska Quay for necessary repairs with the help of a large crane. After completing repairs, the ship departed Hamburg on July 1 at 6:30 p.m., with its next destination set for Rotterdam, expected to arrive on July 2 at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Evergreen Welcomes New 13,808-TEU THALASSA TYHI into Fleet for A-E Service
In a significant boost to its operations, Evergreen Marine Corporation has officially received the 13,808-TEU container ship THALASSA TYHI from its owner, Enesel SA, a prominent Greek company represented by London-based NS Lemos & Co. This delivery marks a key milestone as the THALASSA TYHI becomes the eighth vessel in a fleet of ten neo-postpanamax ships commissioned by Enesel in July 2012 through Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). Each of these impressive vessels was acquired at a competitive price point, with an investment of $116.5 million per ship, a stark contrast to the peak market values that saw similar vessels priced between $160 million to $170 million in 2008. Measuring in at an impressive 368 meters in length and 51 meters in beam, the THALASSA TYHI is engineered to accommodate 20 container rows on its deck, as reported by industry analyst Alphaliner. After completing necessary bunkering operations in Russia, the THALASSA TYHI will commence its journey within Evergreen’s Far East to Europe service, known as CEM. Notably, this service is part of the CKYHE alliance but is marketed as NE 5, a name derived from its predecessor partners. Evergreen is set to elevate this service by transitioning from the previous fleet of 8,500-TEU vessels to the new 13,800-TEU class ships by October. The THALASSA TYHI follows the previously delivered THALASSA MANA, which joined the Evergreen fleet in July. The final two vessels of this series are expected to be delivered within the next two months, further enhancing Evergreen's operational capacity and competitiveness in global shipping.
