Petrochina Secures New Trip Charter Worth Millions
In a significant development in the maritime industry, Petrochina has finalized a new trip charter for the transportation of 270,000 tonnes of dirty cargo. The voyage is set to take place from the U.S. Gulf to Singapore and Ningbo, with a lucrative lumpsum rate ranging from $3.125 to $4.125 million. This charter is scheduled to commence between March 7 and 11, further bolstering Petrochina's position in the global shipping market.
Historic Arrival of Record-Setting Oil Tanker at Gdansk Port
On August 15, the Port of Gdansk made history with the arrival of the largest oil tanker ever recorded, a colossal vessel measuring the equivalent of three football fields. The Naftoport Liquid Fuel Terminal welcomed the oil giant, which transported an impressive 300,000 tonnes of oil from Iran, according to the Port of Gdansk Authority's press center. This milestone marks the first delivery since international sanctions on Iranian oil were lifted, opening the door for US and EU markets to tap into Iran's substantial oil reserves, recognized as the second-largest globally. Polish refineries now have the opportunity to procure this valuable resource, with Lotos already seizing the chance by finalizing a contract for a trial shipment of 2 million barrels of oil. The Atlantas vessel, which set sail from the Kharg export terminal located on a small Iranian island in the northern Persian Gulf, began its journey at the conclusion of June, arriving in Gdansk after two months at sea. Given its dimensions, the VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) type ship, measuring up to 60 meters in width and 333 meters in length, faced restrictions on its voyage. Its maximum draught of 22.5 meters exceeded the permissible limits for both the Suez Canal and the Danish straits, where the maximum allowable draught is only 15 meters. As a result, the Atlantas underwent a partial unloading using the STS (Ship-to-Ship) transfer system at the Frederikshavn port in Denmark to reduce its draught and enable access to the Baltic Sea.
