Working Conditions Aboard the Atlantic-Rose

On November 1, 2018, a serious fire incident occurred in the cargo hold of the vessel 'Andromeda', which was docked at Tuzla Evliya Çelebi Mahallesi Tersaneler Caddesi 6 for maintenance since October 12. The blaze produced thick, dark smoke that erupted from within the ship, raising alarms among nearby workers and the public. In response to the emergency, three workers required medical assistance for smoke inhalation. The situation prompted a swift action from emergency services, with 17 fire engines and a team of 50 personnel, including police, medical staff, and the Turkish Coast Guard, mobilizing to the scene. Remarkably, the fire was partially controlled within six hours, thanks in part to nearby tugboats that worked vigorously to cool the hull and prevent an explosion of the fuel tanks due to the extreme heat. After the incident, the 'Andromeda' was re-registered in Belize and rebranded as 'Atlantic Rose.'
