Additionally, the Russian Federation-registered chemical tanker 'Araz River' spent five days under detention and was released on January 20 at Rotterdam as well. The Paris MoU comprises 27 participating maritime administrations and works to oversee the waters of European coastal states and the North Atlantic from North America to Europe, striving to eradicate sub-standard shipping practices through a standardized port state control system. In January alone, a total of 63 vessels were detained across the Paris MoU region, with over 18,000 inspections conducted annually on foreign ships within these ports, as reported by the Paris MoU.
