Maritime Incident Near Umea: Collision Report of Aura and BBC Virginia
On March 19, 2018, at 1:40 PM, a maritime collision occurred near Umea involving the vessel "Aura," which was being towed by the icebreaker "Sisu," and the cargo ship "BBC Virginia." The incident took place at coordinates 63°47.5'N, 21°36.2'E. The "Aura" sustained significant damage, with a hole below the waterline at the stern. Meanwhile, the "BBC Virginia" experienced a breach above the waterline, measuring one meter by four meters at the bow. Following the incident, the "Sisu" successfully navigated to Kokkola, arriving at 12:25 PM on March 20. The "BBC Virginia" managed to berth in Umea shortly after midnight on the same day. Additionally, the "Aura" reached Vaasa by 4 AM on March 20 and subsequently made its way to the Turku Repair Yard Ltd. in Naantali, where it commenced repairs on March 23.
Heavy Load Carrier 'Aura' Collides with Fairway Buoy Near Lubmin
On June 30, 2017, at approximately 6:10 AM, the heavy load carrier 'Aura' experienced a mishap as it struck fairway buoy L2, located southeast of Ruegen Island. The vessel had just departed from Gdynia on June 29, with plans to collect crane parts at the industrial port of Lubmin. Unfortunately, strong winds and currents diverted the ship from its intended path, resulting in a port side stern collision with the buoy, which subsequently sank. The Wolgast police conducted an investigation around noon following the incident. As a result, the ship's master was levied a safety fine of €228.50. After resolving the matter, 'Aura' set sail from Lubmin on July 1 at 10:15 AM, heading for Rostock. The vessel arrived in Rostock at 8:30 PM and is now en route to Antwerp, with an expected time of arrival on July 4 at 10 PM.
