In a significant move reflecting the challenging conditions of the offshore sector, Oslo-listed World Wide Supply has confirmed the layup of its Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), World Pearl. This decision comes alongside the layup of another vessel, World Diamond, as the company grapples with a persistently weak spot market for offshore services. Both ships have been active in the North Sea, providing essential services to GdF since December 2013. The company's latest announcement indicates that approximately 48 maritime professionals will be issued notices of termination due to this strategic move. World Wide Supply boasts a fleet of six identical PSVs, all built to similar specifications by Damen Shipyards Group in the Netherlands. These vessels were ordered in 2011 and subsequently delivered in 2013, but the current market climate has forced the company to make tough decisions regarding their operational status.

In a significant milestone for offshore construction, Damen Shipyards Galati has successfully delivered the third Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) named 'World Pearl' to Norway's World Wide Supply. This handover comes as part of a robust order consisting of six vessels, marking a transformative phase for Damen Shipyards Group in the maritime sector. 'World Pearl' boasts Damen’s innovative PSV 3300 design, which emphasizes advanced technology and efficiency for modern offshore operations. This is the third vessel in the PSV 3300 series, following the inaugural delivery of the 'World Diamond' in July to the same Norwegian company.
