In a significant operation on July 15, 2026, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), in collaboration with the Ukrainian Navy, launched a successful attack against two Russian vessels in the Black Sea— the 'Louise 1' (IMO: 9290323) and the 'Banda.' Both ships, which are currently facing Ukrainian sanctions, were targeted by SSU-operated 'Mamai' maritime drones. Despite the intervention attempts by Russian aircraft, which included firing machine guns and dropping bombs, they were unable to thwart the drone assault. The 'Louise 1' has been notorious for its role in transporting Russian crude oil during the G7 and EU oil embargo periods. Utilizing a disabled AIS to evade detection, the vessel has shipped approximately three million tonnes of Russian Urals crude oil from Baltic and Black Sea ports throughout 2026. Similarly, the 'Banda' has also been linked to the transportation of Russian crude oil, operating from various ports including Ust-Luga, Kerch, Novorossiysk, and Nakhodka.
