Upon reviewing local Automatic Identification System (AIS) data, Coast Guard personnel identified that the 'Bangkok Bridge' was situated close to the eastern shipping lane, exhibiting a concerning drift pattern for several hours. In their effort to assess the situation, the crew of the 'Bangkok Bridge' was contacted to discern the cause and degree of the incident. Reports indicated that the vessel experienced a main engine failure, a serious event mandated for reporting per federal regulations. Alarmingly, the crew failed to alert the Coast Guard about this failure for over 10 hours, neglecting to provide the necessary immediate notice of marine casualty or communicate the hazardous condition as required by the Code of Federal Regulations. Following successful repairs to the main engine in Dutch Harbor, the crew received clearance to resume their voyage, marking the resolution of this significant maritime incident.

On February 20, 2013, the Panamanian-flagged container vessel found itself drifting in Unimak Pass after losing power to its engines. Coast Guard Lieutenant Jim Fothergill confirmed that crews from the cutter Monroe had prepared Unalaska’s emergency towing system, but the operation was ultimately canceled when the vessel managed to restart its engines around 11 PM that evening. Originally en route to Long Beach, California, the Coast Guard directed the Bangkok Bridge to anchor in Unalaska for necessary repairs. Lieutenant Fothergill noted the precise nature of the engine issues remains unidentified, indicating that the ship could remain in port for several days while repairs are made. "They will complete the repairs and a recognized class society will inspect to ensure the vessel's seaworthiness before any further action is taken," Fothergill explained.
