Suledrott Runs Aground in Kragerø: Full Investigation Underway
On July 28, 2017, at approximately 3 a.m., the cargo vessel 'Suledrott' encountered difficulties and ran aground in Kragerø, specifically at the Galeioddåå location. The ship, which had departed from Tønsberg, was on a mission to collect a cargo of stones headed for Denmark when the incident occurred. After becoming stuck, assistance was rendered by a taxi boat, enabling the 'Suledrott' to free itself and safely dock in Kragerø by 7:15 a.m. Following the grounding, divers conducted checks on the vessel's hull to ensure structural integrity. Local police have initiated an investigation into the incident, while the Norwegian Maritime Directorate is also set to carry out an inquiry. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, nor was there any indication of drug use by the crew at the time of the grounding. Additionally, there were no environmental issues, such as spillage. After thorough assessments, the 'Suledrott' resumed its journey, departing from Kragerø for repairs at Agger Værft in Thyborøn, where it arrived on July 31 at 1:10 p.m. For further visuals and details, visit the Norwegian report featuring photos: https://www.ta.no/nyheter/kragero/bat/i-natt-lastebat-gikk-pa-skjar/s/5-50-388632.
Suledrott Grounded Near Sunnmøre: Swift Rescue Operation Takes Place
In the early hours of September 16, 2012, at precisely 5:36 a.m., the ferry 'Suledrott', sailing en route from Haugesund to Averøy, encountered a critical situation when it ran aground off Sunnmøre in the Bøfjord, Herøy. The vessel struck the Kirkholm rock adjacent to the Hurtigruten quay in Torvika, jeopardizing the safety of its five-member crew. Fortunately, the lifeboat 'Halfdan Grieg' had already been deployed to the area during the night and was able to respond quickly as the tide rose. Remarkably, just before 8 a.m., three hours ahead of police expectations for the highest flood level, the 'Halfdan Grieg' successfully extracted the grounded 'Suledrott', which had developed a slight portside list. Moving under its own power, the 'Suledrott' proceeded to Averøy, where divers from the 'Halfdan Grieg' conducted an inspection of the hull. They discovered a breach in the bulb section at the bow, which was allowing water to enter the vessel. Thankfully, the crew managed to control the water ingress. The 'Suledrott' docked safely at the ISPS-terminal pier in Torvika, Herøy, at 10:24 a.m. The incident was covered in Norwegian reports with accompanying photographs.
