Minor Collision in the Black Sea Involving the 'Begonia S' and 'Natig Aliyev'
In a recent maritime incident, the cargo vessel 'Begonia S', which was traveling from Varna to Novorossiysk, collided with the tanker 'Natig Aliyev' (IMO: 9194000) in the Black Sea. This occurred between the Russian ports of Gelendzhik and Novorossiysk. The collision was reported to have caused minimal damage, allowing both vessels to resume their journeys promptly. The incident took place at an anchorage point amid challenging weather conditions, leading to the 'Natig Aliyev' dragging its anchor, which subsequently caused it to drift into the 'Begonia S'. The cargo ship sustained only slight damage to its bow, while the rudder blade of the tanker was caught on the anchor chain. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported among the crew members, and there was no environmental harm from the collision. Collision Leads to Sinking of Fishing Vessel Near Bornholm
On November 4, 2018, at approximately 5 a.m., the fishing vessel 'Begonia S' was involved in a collision while traveling from Newport, UK, to Gdansk. The incident occurred nine nautical miles south of Bornholm, at coordinates 54°54'00"N and 14°39'48"E, when the 'Begonia S' struck the Polish sport fishing vessel 'Miętus II'. This fishing boat had set sail from Kołobrzeg, carrying 16 individuals, including 13 sport fishermen and three crew members. In the aftermath of the collision, only one person sustained a minor head injury and was promptly transported to the hospital in Rønne, thanks to the swift response from the Danish Sea Rescue Service. The rescue operation saw the deployment of two helicopters and three lifeboats, including vessels from Rønne and the 'Leopold Rosenfeldt' from Nexø, to assist with the rescue of the fishermen, who were ultimately located in a liferaft. The fishing vessel 'R 60 - Tasmania' also responded to the distress call. Tragically, the 'Miętus II' sank following the collision. Meanwhile, the 'Begonia S' was directed to anchor off the island for investigations into the incident. The crew of 17 on board the 'Begonia S', hailing from Turkey, Georgia, and India, were fortunately unharmed and are currently being interviewed regarding the collision. Additionally, a specialized team has been dispatched to Bornholm to assess whether the wreck of the fishing vessel poses any environmental hazards.
