CMA CGM Mermaid Strikes Quay in Muuga Port, Damaging Container Terminal
On September 8, 2025, the bulk carrier 'Belasitza' found itself in an unfortunate position at the port of Muuga when the container ship 'CMA CGM Mermaid' (IMO: 9961283) collided with the quay during its arrival from Kotka. As the vessel approached the container terminal, its bow crashed into the quay, resulting in damage to both the structure and the ship. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among crew members. The 'CMA CGM Mermaid' reached port at 11:53 a.m. UTC and was able to berth at the Muuga Transiidikeskuse Container Terminal shortly after. However, by 3:00 p.m. UTC, the navigational status indicated the vessel had run aground, and its AIS signal went dark for nearly three hours, raising concerns. Meanwhile, the 'Belasitza', which had come from Flushing earlier that day, remains stationary in port along with the 'CMA CGM Mermaid' as of September 12.
