On May 25, 2024, the U.S. Central Command reported that two anti-ship ballistic missiles were launched by Houthi forces into the Red Sea. Fortunately, these missiles caused no injuries or damage to vessels in the area. The tanker 'Essex,' managed by Zodiac Maritime and owned by Israeli businessman Eyal Ofer, was safely anchored near Alexandria port during the incident. British maritime security firm Ambrey provided insights in a recent note, explicitly mentioning that the 'Essex' had been operating between Alexandria and Port Said, and had not made any stops at Israeli harbors in recent weeks. In fact, the vessel remained no further than 15 nautical miles offshore from Egypt throughout the previous week. Notably, communications from the Houthis suggested that their missiles did not strike the vessel, further affirming the safety of the 'Essex' in these turbulent waters.
