On the morning of November 13, 2015, a fire incident occurred on the roro ferry 'Finnkraft' at Vuosaari port in Helsinki. The blaze ignited in the bow area, specifically within a stairwell. Quick-thinking actions by the ferry's 14-member crew were crucial, as they utilized smoke divers to contain the fire before emergency services arrived shortly after being alerted at 11:06 a.m. Initial concerns were heightened by the possibility of up to 40 passengers being on board, but it was later confirmed that no one was injured in the incident. Despite the toxic smoke spreading across several decks, including the bridge, damage was largely limited to the engine room. On March 18, the freighter 'Finnkraft' was still docked at Vorwerk port, undergoing examinations after running aground near Schlutup due to an engine failure. The incident occurred a day earlier, prompting immediate action. After the vessel managed to refloat itself, the workboat 'Pirol' was deployed to stabilize it and prevent any further drift caused by prevailing winds and currents that could result in it running aground once more on the southern embankment. The tugboat 'Axel' arrived from Lübeck to successfully escort 'Finnkraft' to a secure berth following the stabilization efforts. Underwater divers were subsequently dispatched to assess the hull's condition. The ship is currently detained pending a decision from the trade association in Hamburg, while the Lübeck-Travemünde water police have commenced an investigation into the incident. Fortunately, all 16 crew members aboard remained unharmed during the event.
