A tragic maritime incident occurred on November 13, 2012, when a man fell overboard from the supply vessel 'Cape Fushen' in Singapore's Eastern Bunkering Anchorage. Despite a swift response from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Police Coast Guard (PCG), the man succumbed to his injuries after being rescued. In the evening hours, at approximately 8:45 p.m., the MPA received a distress call regarding a drifting craft and two individuals spotted in the waters, roughly 3.5 kilometers south of East Coast Parkway. Responding units included two MPA vessels and a PCG craft, which successfully retrieved the two men within 25 minutes, at 9:10 p.m. The victims were identified as the master of the supply craft and a chandler of a Singapore-registered ship. Unfortunately, the ship chandler was found unconscious upon rescue and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The master of the supply craft was unharmed and returned to his vessel following the incident. He recounted that the chandler had fallen into the water while trying to disembark after delivering supplies. In an attempt to assist, the master bravely jumped into the water while wearing a life jacket, illustrating the urgent danger posed in such unexpected maritime circumstances. Investigations into the incident are being conducted by MPA, PCG, and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to ascertain the full details surrounding this unfortunate event.
