The bulk carrier 'Pacific Queen' has found itself in a challenging situation after departing from Porto Do Acu on February 23, 2019. The vessel, loaded and bound for Singapore, became disabled and drifted on February 28, situated approximately halfway between Brazil and Cape Town. In response to this maritime emergency, the South African rescue tug 'SA Amandla' (IMO: 7385215) has been engaged for the towing operation. The connection between the tug and the 'Pacific Queen' was successfully established on March 8, with an estimated time of arrival in Cape Town projected for March 26.

In the early hours of December 29, 2015, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Port Elizabeth team responded promptly to a call for medical assistance from the fishing vessel 'Pacific Queen.' At approximately 4 a.m., the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) informed the NSRI that a 30-year-old crew member from Ethiopia was exhibiting symptoms consistent with suspected malaria. The NSRI quickly launched a rescue craft, supported by emergency medical services (EMS) paramedics from the Eastern Cape Government Health department. They met the vessel 15 nautical miles off the coast, where the patient was safely transferred to the sea rescue craft. After a successful medevac, the individual was taken ashore and conveyed to a local hospital for further treatment, arriving in a stable condition.
