Stranded Lifeboat from 'BF Carp' Detected on Sidmouth Beach

Dec 23, 2025 21:31

On December 21, a lifeboat that had gone missing from the container ship 'BF Carp' was discovered on the shores of Sidmouth Beach in Devon, raising immediate concerns among local authorities. The vessel, en route from Antwerp to Agadir with an estimated time of arrival of December 23, 2025, had been unaccounted for since December 17, after it was dislodged from the ship and swept into the waters of the English Channel. The HM Coastguard received the first distress signal around 07:30 AM and promptly coordinated a response involving lifeboat teams. As the crew had been monitoring the missing lifeboat's trajectory, they were unaware of where it would eventually wash ashore. To ensure the lifeboat’s safety and manage potential hazards, the Beer Coastguard Rescue Team was dispatched to the scene to secure the vessel, particularly concerned about flares that were found on board. In a proactive measure, the Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat team was also called upon due to fears that the incoming tide might further compromise the vessel. The teams quickly decided to recover the lifeboat before it was subject to damage from the rising waters. Utilizing a winch tractor, the lifeboat was safely relocated above the tide line to the Clifton slipway. The RNLI team at Sidmouth facilitated the operation, employing a tractor to secure the lifeboat in a more safe and manageable location. Once the lifeboat was secured, the crew began removing onboard equipment and personal items for storage until further notice. Authorities, including the Devon and Cornwall Police, the Receiver of Wreck, and the Environment Agency, have been notified and are now overseeing the lifeboat's removal from the beach to ensure the safety of the area and the public.
