Urgent Medical Evacuation Conducted from BF Esperanza Near Lanzarote
In a swift and coordinated effort, the 'BF Esperanza', sailing from Banjul to Algeciras, initiated an urgent medical evacuation for a crew member suffering from serious health issues while navigating approximately 30 nautical miles from Arrecife. The incident prompted the CCS of Salvamento MarÃtimo in Las Palmas to spring into action after the Radiomedical Center assessed the situation and confirmed the necessity for an immediate evacuation. The dedicated SAR helicopter, Helimer 205, was dispatched to the scene, successfully hoisting the affected crew member from the container ship. Once safely aboard, the patient was promptly transferred to Lanzarote's César Manrique Airport, where the Emergency Coordination Center of the Canary Islands was on standby. After receiving initial care on-site, the patient was swiftly transported to a local hospital via ambulance for further treatment. This operation highlights the importance of rapid response in maritime medical emergencies.
