Sohar Port and Freezone marked a significant milestone on Friday with the inaugural arrival of the container ship, Messini. This vessel is the pioneer of a newly established direct service linking South Asia and Oman, a collaboration between Evergreen and Simatech. This new cargo loop is designed to enhance shipping options for Omani importers and exporters, making trade more efficient. The arrival of Messini was commemorated with a special ceremony held at the quayside, attended by notable figures such as Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi, chairman of the Board of Sohar Industrial Port Company (SIPC), and Said bin Hamdoon bin Saif Al Harthy, undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport. This strategic partnership aims to bolster economic ties and facilitate more robust shipping solutions in the region.
Costamare Expands Fleet with Acquisition of 2,458 TEU Container Ship Messini
In a strategic move to enhance its operational capabilities, Costamare Inc. has successfully acquired the 1997-built container vessel Messini (previously known as Pembroke) for a total of $6.8 million. This transaction was fully financed through equity, showcasing the company's commitment to strengthening its financial position. The vessel was officially delivered on August 2, 2012. As part of the acquisition, Costamare has entered into a charter agreement with Evergreen, committing the Messini for an anticipated 18-month period at a competitive daily rate of $8,100. The vessel is scheduled to be delivered to its charterers by September 23, 2012, marking a significant addition to Costamare's growing fleet.
