On October 7, 2018, the Dutch-registered Heavy Transport Vessel BigLift Barentsz made a noteworthy arrival in Rotterdam after traversing the Northern Sea Route from China. This remarkable vessel is explicitly engineered for operations in polar waters and plays a vital role in advancing maritime transport efficiency. By utilizing this less-traveled route, BigLift Barentsz significantly shortens the journey between China and Europe, bypassing the lengthy routes around Asia and the often-congested Suez Canal. The ship was carrying critical components for Allseas' groundbreaking 5,000-ton crane designated for the iconic Pioneering Spirit vessel. These essential parts were loaded at the Huisman terminal located in Zhangzhou, China, before being offloaded in Rotterdam onto barges using Bonn & Mees’ specialized floating cranes. These components will be securely stored in preparation for when the Pioneering Spirit returns to Rotterdam. Following this significant delivery, the BigLift Barentsz is setting course for Flushing, where it will embark on its next assignment, continuing its vital contributions to heavy lift and transportation operations in the maritime sector.
