On January 2, 2024, the Port Authority of Kalymnos received a report from the captain of a fishing vessel regarding a collision with the detained ship 'Blue Shark'. The incident occurred in the waters off Kalymnos, specifically at coordinates 36°56'39" N and 27°0'09" E. At the time of the accident, 'Blue Shark' was anchored without functional mooring-deck lights due to a generator malfunction. Fortunately, the collision resulted in damage to both vessels, but no personnel injuries or environmental pollution were reported. The Kalymnos Port Authority has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the allision. After the mechanical issues were reported, the 'Blue Shark' was towed to the safe anchorage of Kalymnos. In response to the incident, the Kalymnos Port Authority has barred the vessel from leaving the port until repairs are conclusively made and the ship is re-certified for seaworthiness by its monitoring classification society. Moreover, the vessel's Master is facing potential administrative penalties for failing to notify Greek authorities of the mechanical failure, a requirement under maritime regulations.
