On March 8, 2017, the cargo vessel Gagliarda, which was en route from Patras to Ravenna, undertook a heroic mission by rescuing 113 migrants stranded in a small boat in the Ionian Sea. The migrants, comprising 109 individuals from Pakistan, three from Syria, and one from India, were found adrift between the Greek coast and the shores of Italy. It is believed that they may have embarked from Crete or another location along Greece's western coastline. After the successful rescue, the Gagliarda returned to the Greek port of Patras, ensuring the safety and well-being of those on board.
