On the night of August 28, 2021, a critical situation unfolded when the Port Authority of Gythio received an urgent notification regarding a 64-year-old crew member aboard the 'BMI Emperor'. The vessel, which was making its way from Sagunto to Burgas, found itself navigating the sea area of Akrotiri. Due to the crew member's need for immediate hospital assistance, the ship made its way to Gythio's anchorage. There, the local vessel 'Zoodochos Pigi' arrived promptly to facilitate the transfer, successfully transporting the patient to the port. Following the transfer, an ambulance was dispatched to convey the individual to the General Hospital of Laconia for necessary medical treatment.
