The Boha-Wittenbergen: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

The M/V Wittenbergen was successfully refloated on the evening of August 6, following a coordinated effort involving the tugs Alexander 3 (IMO: 8903181) and Appolon (IMO: 7431806). Prior to the refloat, divers onboard the Alexander 3 conducted a thorough inspection of the vessel's hull. The Wittenbergen, which had been carrying a cargo of 3,000 metric tons of steel plates and had a crew of eight aboard, experienced minor water ingress in its forepeak. Thankfully, authorities confirmed that there was no immediate risk to the vessel or crew. As of August 7, the Wittenbergen remains securely anchored in the same location off Aviemonas on Kithira Island, with both tugs on standby for any further assistance needed. On the morning of July 30, 2015, the freighter 'Wittenbergen' encountered trouble when it ran aground at the eastern tip of Kythira Island in the Sea of Crete. The vessel sustained a minor crack in its forepeak area, resulting in some water ingress; however, the crew was able to manage the situation effectively. At the time of the incident, 'Wittenbergen' was making its way from Gebze to Belfast, carrying a cargo of steel coils and operating with a crew of seven or eight members. In response to the emergency, the Coastguard acted swiftly, deploying a salvage tug to assist in refloating the stranded ship.

The cargo vessel 'Wittenbergen' has resumed its journey, departing from Brake port on February 20 at 8:45 PM. The ship is now headed to Foynes, with an expected arrival time of February 25 at 5:00 AM. The vessel's repairs were necessitated by a collision with the Antigua-flagged cargo ship 'Helga' (IMO: 8402577) on February 15.
