Bore-Sea Vessel Reviews and Specifications

On December 17, 2017, the cargo vessel Bore Sea experienced a critical mechanical failure while traversing the English Channel, en route from Leixões to Rotterdam. The incident occurred early in the morning, prompting the crew to notify CROSS Jobourg of their drifting situation, located approximately 35 miles northeast of Barfleur at 09:15 a.m. Despite several attempts to rectify the cylinder damage onboard, the crew was unable to restore functionality, leading to the decision to engage a commercial towing operation. The company Multraship was contacted, and their tug Multratug 7 (IMO: 9817808), fortunately nearby while departing from Ceuta, arrived to assist. Although Multratug 7 established a towing connection, it lacked sufficient power to tow the Bore Sea effectively and instead maintained its position while awaiting reinforcements. To bolster the rescue efforts, Multraship dispatched another tug, Multratug 20 (IMO: 9572006), which departed from Ostend at 8:45 p.m. on the same day. The second tug successfully joined the convoy early on December 18 at 1 p.m. The Gris-Nez CROSS monitored the towing operation until the convoy exited French territorial waters, escorting the Bore Sea toward Rotterdam. The vessel ultimately berthed at the Cobelfret Terminal in Rotterdam at 1:15 a.m. on December 20. Following the successful rescue and offloading of cargo, the Bore Sea set sail again at 5:30 p.m. on the same day, starting its return journey to Leixões, with an estimated arrival date of December 23.
