On July 6, 2017, the US Coast Guard swiftly engaged with the tanker 'Argent Cosmos' after it ran aground on the Columbia River near Skamokawa, Washington. The incident, which occurred around 6:28 a.m., was triggered when the vessel experienced a fuel pump failure approximately 33 miles downriver from the Port of Longview and about 45 miles from the river's mouth. By 9 a.m., an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Sector Columbia River conducted an aerial survey of the 'Argent Cosmos' and reported no signs of environmental pollution. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the crew. The tanker had just departed from a stop in Longview and was transporting 6,170 tons of ethanol, 25,170 tons of monoethylene glycol, as well as 17 tons of high-sulfur oil and 0.4 tons of low-sulfur oil at the time of the incident. In an effort to prioritize environmental safety, Coast Guard officials ordered the tanker to remain in position until proper inspections could be conducted, even with the expected rise in tide. A 29-foot boat from Station Cape Disappointment was dispatched to the scene, carrying a team for inspections from Sector Columbia River. Meanwhile, marine tugs began salvage operations as the water level increased. Several vessels were present during the operation, including the tug 'Mule' (MMSI: 367767410), 'Sommer S' (IMO: 9669811), and 'Willamette' (IMO: 8972998), along with the anti-pollution vessel 'Mark O. Hatfield' (MMSI: 338085242) and the patrol boat 'CG 29230' (MMSI: 369990230). After a successful salvage operation, the 'Argent Cosmos' was ultimately relocated and secured at the Longview Port Authority General Cargo Terminals. On February 27, 2012, the tanker Argent Cosmos experienced a significant engine failure while traveling from Zhangjiagang to Shanghai. According to AIS data, by the morning of March 1, the vessel had changed its navigation and was seen crossing the Shanghai outer road, heading back towards Shanghai.
