Authorities from the Federal Police (PF) and the Captaincy of São Paulo Ports (CPSP), alongside representatives from the Ministry of Labor, are conducting an investigation into a tragic incident that claimed the life of a worker aboard the vessel 'Ocean Phoenix 1.' The incident occurred on June 20, 2016, as the ship was en route from Itaguai to Santos. Vanderley Ferreira da Silva, a 25-year-old resident of Guarujá, was performing cleaning duties in one of the ship's holds when he was struck in the thigh by a high-pressure jet of water, resulting in his immediate death. The body of the deceased was recovered from the ship on June 21 at 9:30 a.m. after the Ocean Phoenix 1 docked at Pier 33 in Santos. Vanderley had been employed by Cleanse Guaçu Ltd., a company specializing in the cleaning of ship holds and containers, since January 2014. Initial reports suggest that although he had substantial experience, he may have acted carelessly, leading to the high-pressure water jet causing a severe injury that penetrated his femoral artery. Investigators are currently assessing the situation to determine any potential criminal liability, with the possibility of imposing charges for manslaughter.
