On the evening of October 6, 2024, a heroic rescue unfolded 32 nautical miles south of Gavdos when the Greek Coast Guard received notification about a wooden vessel carrying 55 migrants. The bulk carrier 'Breeze', which was navigating its route from Corpus Christi to Ashdod, swiftly responded. It made its way to the port of Paleochora in Chania, where the migrants were transferred to a patrol boat for safe passage. Following their rescue, the individuals were relocated to the port of Tiganio and subsequently placed in temporary accommodation in Agyia for further support. Meanwhile, the Central Port Authority of Chania has seized the abandoned boat and initiated a preliminary investigation into the incident.

A fire incident occurred aboard the cargo ship 'Breeze' on January 31, 2023, while it was docked in the Willamette River near Portland, Oregon. The vessel, which was carrying an impressive 38,000 metric tons of wheat and had a crew of 21 on board, caught fire in the early hours after 3:15 AM, close to the Broadway Bridge in coordinates 45 32 09 N, 122 40 34 W. Responding promptly, the Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) crews arrived at the scene to find flames emanating from a room located on the Bravo deck of the ship. The crew had initially taken action by attempting to douse the fire from outside through a window. However, firefighters quickly established a secure water supply, connecting to a hydrant and deploying over 1,000 feet of hose to access a pump station on the dock. They were then able to connect hoses to the dock's pipelines, facilitating a coordinated attack on the blaze. Subsequently, PF&R personnel entered the vessel to extinguish the fire in the laundry room where it originated. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported during the incident, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
