The cruise ship Britannia has changed its course, returning to its home port in Barbados after experiencing a power outage while navigating through Curaçao on December 30, 2025. The vessel briefly lost power before backup systems were activated, restoring electricity within approximately 30 minutes. Britannia had set sail from Bridgetown, Barbados, on December 26, 2025, embarking on a 14-night voyage themed ‘New Year in the Caribbean Islands’. The ship had successfully visited Grenada on December 28 and was scheduled to dock in Curaçao on December 30. However, plans changed when the ship decided to skip a scheduled stop in Aruba. On January 3, 2026, passengers were informed that the Britannia would also forgo a two-day stay in St. Lucia and instead head directly back to Barbados. P&O Cruises announced on January 5 that the necessary repairs were almost complete, with sailing expected to resume later that evening. The repairs required technical assistance from the shore, prompting the ship to dock in Barbados. Once the issues were resolved, Britannia resumed its itinerary, arriving in Martinique on January 5 and in St. Maarten on January 6 as originally planned.
