On June 29, 2024, a male passenger aboard the cruise ship 'Adora Magic City' experienced a heartbreaking incident while en route from Shanghai to Jeju. The passenger climbed over the vessel's railing and fell into the ocean approximately 90 nautical miles from Jeju Island during the morning hours. The crew became aware of the situation after reviewing surveillance footage, prompting immediate action. Without delay, the ship turned back to the location where the incident occurred and initiated search and rescue (SAR) operations. Over the course of nearly 13 hours, the collaborative efforts of the cruise ship's crew and the Chinese maritime authorities, including the Shanghai Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC), along with the South Korean Coastguard, were brought into action, supported by a nearby vessel. Despite their dedicated efforts, the SAR search continued under the guidance of other involved agencies, while the 'Adora Magic City' resumed its planned route after receiving clearance from maritime management authorities. Unfortunately, the delay caused by this tragic event led to the cancellation of the scheduled stop at Jeju port, affecting the travel plans of numerous passengers.
