On July 29, 2026, a tragic accident occurred at Mackay Harbour, where a worker lost his life after being struck by a heavy metal beam while the MV Bruce was in the process of departing after unloading its cargo. Emergency services arrived promptly at the scene around 7:30 p.m., but despite their efforts, the worker was declared deceased due to life-threatening injuries sustained in the incident. The North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) expressed its profound sorrow over this unfortunate event. In the wake of the accident, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and offered heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
