Hamburg Süd Completes Fleet Expansion on Europe-ECSA Routes

Jul 01, 2014 23:59

Hamburg Süd has successfully completed the process of upgrading its fleet for the Europe-East Coast South America (ECSA) 'Plate Loop' service, in collaboration with its sister company Alianaa. The vessel capacities have risen from 7,100 TEU to an impressive 9,800 TEU. This transition took approximately four months, following the introduction of the first 9,814 TEU vessels in February. Notably, the Cap San Artesmssio has now taken the place of the 7,154-TEU Santa Isabel, marking the end of the smaller vessels in this service. Additionally, the port rotation has been extended to include one extra port call, increasing the duration to eight weeks. The eighth vessel, Cap San Maleas, also with a capacity of 9,814 TEU, joined the service in Buenos Aires back in July, as reported by Alphaliner. Both Cap San Artesmssio and Cap San Maleas were delivered earlier this year, in April and May, respectively. These ships made their way from Asia to the Europe-ECSA route via a westbound journey on the multi-carrier Asia-ECSA 'Itajai Express' service, which is a collaborative effort involving major players such as Hamburg Sud, CSCL, Hanjin Shipping, CCNI, Maersk Line, and CMA CGM. Notably, the newly assigned vessels are equipped with 2,100 reefer plugs, enhancing their cargo capabilities. The Plate Loop itinerary includes key port calls at Rotterdam, London-Gateway, Hamburg, Antwerp, Le Havre, Itaguai, Santos, Paranagua, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rio Grande do Sul, Itapoa, Paranagua, Santos, Tangier, concluding the route back at Rotterdam.
