In a significant milestone for the shipping industry, Hamburg Sud has officially taken delivery of the Cap San Sounio, marking the ninth addition to its fleet of 12 high reefer vessels, each with a capacity of 9,814 TEU. This vessel, constructed by the renowned Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), is designated for the multicarrier service operating between the Far East and East Coast South America (ECSA), specifically under the SEAS 2/ASAX 2/ASAS 2/NGX 2 routes. The Cap San Sounio is notably the third of the four vessels in this charter arrangement, with the remaining nine ships owned by the Greek shipping company Enesel. This new addition joins a collaboratively operated service that includes industry giants such as Maersk, CMA CGM, Hamburg Sud, CNNI, CSCL, and Hanjin, alongside Hapag-Lloyd and CSAV for co-loading activities. Part of the Cap San series, these vessels represent the largest ships ever procured by Hamburg Sud, featuring an impressive capacity of 2,100 reefer plugs, making it possible to transport up to 110,000 cubic meters of refrigerated cargo, as highlighted by Alphaliner. The German carrier has opted for a long-term charter arrangement with Enesel SA, led by NS Lemos, to finance the four remaining vessels, which are anticipated for delivery in the latter half of 2014.
