Cape-Corfu Ship Details and Seafarer Feedback

On July 17, 2025, at 10 a.m., the Penlee RNLI launched its all-weather lifeboat, the 'Ivan Ellen', in response to a call from the Falmouth Coastguard. Originally assigned to perform a medical evacuation (medevac) for a crew member aboard the 'Cape Corfu', a container ship traveling from Antwerp to Saint John, the lifeboat was expected to assist a crew member suffering from a leg injury situated approximately 30 miles southwest of Mount’s Bay. However, while en route, the mission was altered as a helicopter was redirected to execute the medevac, leading the 'Ivan Ellen' to pivot towards another urgent situation. The lifeboat was tasked with providing support to the Sennen Cove RNLI, which had been dispatched to aid the potting vessel 'Emma Louise-TO60', reported to be taking on water near Pendeen. The Sennen Cove lifeboat, the 'City of London III', had reached the 'Emma Louise' beforehand and was operating three pumps to manage the situation. The Sennen Cove crew initiated an escort of the distressed vessel back to shore. Once they reached Land’s End, the Penlee lifeboat crew took over the escort and successfully guided the 'Emma Louise' back to safety in Newlyn harbour.
