On May 30, 2014, a maritime incident unfolded in the Strait of Gibraltar involving the cargo ship "Cape Med" and the bulk carrier "Le Sheng" at approximately 4:05 AM. The "Cape Med," which was leaving Gibraltar without cargo and heading towards Puerto Drummond, collided with the "Le Sheng," which was en route to the Bay of Algeciras for a supply drop. During the confrontation, the bow of the "Le Sheng" impacted the port side of the "Cape Med," resulting in significant damage and a breach to the ballast tank of the former vessel. As water began to seep in, the "Cape Med" promptly anchored in the Alpha area of the Bay of Algeciras, just opposite the Campamento port area in San Roque. The "Le Sheng," coming from Huelva with a cargo of nickel, later moored at anchorage Delta. In response to the situation, Spanish authorities dispatched the tugs "Salvamar Dubhe" and "Luz de Mar" to assist in the aftermath. Subsequently, both vessels were detained by the Maritime Authority of Algeciras, with fines imposed of €60,000 for the "Cape Med" and €30,000 for the "Le Sheng."
