Tanker Spill in Brunsbüttel: Aniline Leak from Capewater
A hazardous incident unfolded on January 22, 2026, when the tanker 'Capewater' experienced a leak of aniline, a toxic chemical, during its docking at the Brunsbüttel port. The leak, which occurred around 2 p.m., resulted in the spillage of between 100 to 1,000 liters of the substance. Fortunately, much of the aniline remained contained on the deck of the vessel, with only a minimal amount making its way into the Kiel Canal. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries related to the incident. Local fire department units promptly responded to the scene to manage the leakage. The 'Capewater' had previously arrived from Antwerp, docking just past 6 a.m. that same day.
