On May 30, 2013, a significant maritime incident occurred approximately 30 miles off the Galveston coast when the cargo vessel 'Imperial Spirit', en route from Houston to Lagos, collided with the tanker m/v 'Profit', which was loaded with around 19 million gallons of crude oil. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or pollution from either vessel following the collision, though both suffered damage. At about 5:50 a.m., the Coast Guard's Marine Safety Unit in Texas City was alerted to the accident.
