Ceg-Universe Vessel Reviews and Specifications

On February 18, 2018, at 7:34 a.m., RNLI volunteers from Kyle of Lochalsh and Mallaig sprang into action to assist the disabled cargo vessel, CEG Universe, which found itself stranded due to a broken rudder in the treacherous Kylerhea narrows. Responding swiftly, the Kyle lifeboat, Spirit of Fred. Olsen, launched at 7:44 a.m., racing towards the scene where the CEG Universe was desperately deploying its anchor to secure its position amidst the powerful tidal currents. Arriving at 7:53 a.m., the lifeboat crew quickly boarded the impaired vessel to evaluate the circumstances while awaiting the more substantial Mallaig Severn class lifeboat. Confronted with an eight-knot tide and the vessel’s rudder jammed hard to port, a decision was made to wait for a tugboat to aid in the towing process. As the crew waited for the SD Kyle of Lochalsh to arrive from the BUTEC base in Kyle, an unfortunate complication arose: the vessel’s anchor brake failed, leading CEG Universe to drift backward. In a coordinated effort, both the Mallaig and Kyle lifeboats took the cargo ship under tow, battling against the relentless flows until the tug arrived at 10:15 a.m. Together, the SD Kyle of Lochalsh and the two lifeboats expertly maneuvered the CEG Universe through the narrows and successfully towed it to safety in Kyle Harbour by 12:10 p.m. The lifeboat crews were then stood down, with the Kyle lifeboat returning to station for refueling and preparation for future service. On April 4, 2017, at approximately 2:30 PM, a maritime incident occurred involving the cargo ship "Dan Fighter" and the container vessel "Maersk Genoa". The collision took place in the Borssele area, located between Breskens and Flushing on the Wester Scheldt waterway. Following the impact, the "Dan Fighter" sustained a breach in its stern above the waterline, yet fortunately, there were no injuries or loss of cargo reported. Authorities promptly advised both vessels to anchor for further assessment. The tug "Union 5" was on standby for assistance. The "Dan Fighter," traveling from Bilbao to Antwerp, was able to resume its voyage later that evening, while the "Maersk Genoa" had just departed Antwerp en route to Bremerhaven.
