In a troubling incident on August 15, 2019, two vessels were assaulted at Douala anchorage, raising alarms about maritime safety in the region. The first ship, the bulk carrier 'Victory C', was attacked around 1:30 a.m. at coordinates 03°52'N 009°31'E. During the attack, nine of the 21 crew members, all of Asian descent, were abducted. The 'Victory C' had docked at Douala Anchorage on August 12 and briefly changed position before the incident. Hours later, in the morning, another attack occurred involving the cargo m/v 'Marmalita', which encountered pirates while anchored in the Wouri River at the same location. This second assault resulted in the kidnapping of eight crew members, including three Russians. The 'Marmalita' had arrived at the anchorage on August 13. The string of attacks highlights the increasing security threats facing shipping operations in this region.

CMB SA has successfully completed the sale of three Handysize bulk carriers as part of a single package transaction. The vessels include the "Cmb Giulia," built in 2012 at Zhejiang Jingang, China, which underwent dry docking in May 2020. Additionally, the sale features the "Cmb Adrien" and "Cmb Catrine," both constructed in Jiangsu Zhenjiang, China, in 2011 and 2012 respectively. The "Cmb Adrien" had a dry dock inspection in January 2021, while the "Cmb Catrine" was last docked in March 2020. The entire fleet was acquired by Greek buyers for a total of USD 27 million, emphasizing a strong market interest in quality Handysize vessels.
