Cellus Grounding Incident Disrupts Sunderland Port Traffic
On the morning of December 19, 2025, the cargo vessel 'Cellus', traveling from Karlshamn, ran aground shortly after navigating past the piers of Sunderland. This unfortunate incident effectively blocked access to both the port and the River Wear. In response to the situation, tugs from the Tees and Tyne swiftly mobilized to refloat the stranded ship, which was loaded with paper products. Fortunately, there were no reports of pollution or injuries resulting from the grounding. After a successful operation, the 'Cellus' managed to dock at Greenwell's Quay in Sunderland. The following day, December 20, the vessel resumed its journey, heading towards Södra i Mönsterås, where it arrived on December 23.
