Evergreen Welcomes New 13,808-TEU Vessel 'Thalassa Niki' from Enesel
In an exciting development for the shipping industry, Evergreen has officially taken delivery of the 'Thalassa Niki', a massive 13,808-TEU vessel from the notable Greek owner Enesel. This delivery marks the sixth addition to a series of ten neo-overpanamax ultra-large container ships (ULCS) that Enesel originally ordered from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) back in July 2012. This strategic acquisition is backed by decade-long charters with Evergreen, solidifying the partnership between the two companies. The financial outlay for this newbuilding has been pegged at an impressive US$116.5 million per ship, a significant contrast to the $160-170 million that other owners dished out during the market peak of 2008. The previous vessel in this series, 'Thalassa Avra', was successfully delivered in May and has since been integrated into the carrier's Asia-Europe (CEM) service, which forms an essential part of their new CKYHE offering. Under the branding of the CKYH partners, the service is referred to as 'NE 5'. Previously operated by 8,500-TEU vessels, the 'NE 5' loop is in the process of transitioning to these new mega ships, all of which are slated for delivery by September, as reported by Alphaliner. The evolution of this service underscores the continuous advancements in maritime logistics and Evergreen's commitment to modernize its fleet.
