Tugboat Seized with Massive Cocaine Haul in Atlantic
In a significant drug bust, the tugboat 'Breath' was intercepted in the Atlantic Ocean and escorted to Las Palmas, where authorities discovered a staggering 1,400 kilograms of cocaine on board. The interception occurred on October 22, 2018, approximately 1,000 miles off the coast of the Canary Islands, thanks to the swift actions of the Spanish Navy patrol vessel 'Rayo (P-42).' The tug had been navigating towards Europe after departing from a port in early October before eerily veering closer to the South American coastline, encompassing areas near Guyana, Venezuela, and Trinidad, just two days later. It is suspected that the illicit shipment of cocaine was clandestinely taken on board from traffickers operating at sea. In conjunction with the seizure, all 10 crew members were apprehended, comprising seven Turkish nationals, one Georgian, one Ukrainian, and one Bulgarian.
