Freighter 'Neptune' Breaks Mooring Lines During Cargo Operations in London

May 22, 2019 10:08

On the evening of May 20, 2019, the freighter 'Neptune', manned by a crew of seven, experienced a critical incident while discharging cargo at the Peruvian Wharf in London. At approximately 7 p.m., the vessel loosened its mooring lines, requiring immediate intervention. The captain reported that the ship had ample mooring rope available despite its list of four to five degrees toward the port side. In response, the Port of London Authority dispatched a harbor vessel to assess the situation and provide escort services. Following instructions, the 'Neptune' was directed to proceed to Gravesend for further evaluation. The berth was later inspected by the harbor master and berth owner under daylight conditions. Prior to losing its berth, the freighter had successfully unloaded around 500 tonnes of cargo. The 'Neptune' continued its journey on May 22, departing London at 5:30 a.m. and setting sail for Calais, with an estimated time of arrival scheduled for 5 p.m.

Neptune Faces Engine Troubles Near Margate, Prompting Repairs

Feb 15, 2019 10:48

On February 14, 2019, while navigating toward Whitstable from Northfleet, the vessel Neptune encountered significant mechanical issues. The ship, carrying a crew of seven, experienced an oil leak in its cooling system, leading to the malfunction of its engines. As a result, only one engine was functional when the Neptune was positioned at 51°25'08" N and 1°22'35" E. Despite the challenging circumstances, the crew opted not to seek external assistance and managed to anchor the vessel at Margate Roads Anchorage, continuing to make headway at a reduced speed. Once it was determined that only one of its engines was eligible for repairs, the Neptune made its way to the port of Ramsgate on February 15, docking at 6:40 a.m. After effecting necessary repairs, the vessel was back in operation, setting sail for Dordrecht on February 16 at 7 p.m., and successfully berthing there on February 19.

Islay Trader Cargo Ship Rescued After Running Aground Off Margate Coast

Oct 09, 2017 07:30

A cargo ship laden with broken glass, the 75-meter Islay Trader, has successfully been refloated after running aground off the Kent coast near Margate Harbour. The vessel became stuck approximately 30 meters (98 feet) from the shoreline shortly after 03:00 BST, placing it perilously close to the notable Antony Gormley sculpture located in front of the Turner Contemporary gallery. After a 12-hour rescue operation, the ship was towed free from the seabed with the assistance of a tugboat. The Islay Trader is now set to resume its journey to Antwerp, Belgium. Fortunately, a spokeswoman for the coastguard confirmed that the ship's fuel tanks were intact and undamaged during the incident. Throughout the entire operation, the six crew members remained safely aboard the vessel.
