In a remarkable maritime rescue operation, the crew of the container ship CMA CGM URAL came to the aid of two individuals aboard the distressed sailing vessel Relentless, about 400 miles south of Bermuda. The 53-foot ketch rigged sailboat departed from St. George’s on December 9, 2023, heading towards the Bahamas, when it encountered severe weather conditions and technical difficulties, leading to the failure of its autopilot system. In response to the emergency, the crew of Relentless activated their Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB). Acting swiftly, the US Coast Guard Rescue Coordination Centre Miami redirected the nearby CMA CGM URAL, which was en route from Miami to Singapore, to assist the stranded sailors. The crew of the Relentless was able to safely board the container ship, which then altered its course towards Bermuda, the nearest port for disembarkation. The CMA CGM URAL arrived at the pilot station on December 15 at 4 p.m., where the two American nationals were successfully transferred to the pilot boat St. David for safe landing at Ordnance Island. This incident highlights the importance of maritime safety measures and the collaborative efforts of vessels at sea in times of emergency.

The CMA CGM Ural, a container ship sailing under IMO number 9758382, is currently facing health challenges as six crew members from Sri Lanka report symptoms of fever and elevated temperatures. The vessel departed from Shekou, China, on January 15 and is en route to the Suez Canal, navigating through the Gulf of Aden after stops in several Chinese ports including Shenzhen (January 15), Xiamen (January 14), Ningbo-Zhoushan (January 11), and Yangshan (January 8-9). On January 27, the Merchant Shipping Association of Sri Lanka was notified about the crew's health issues. As of now, it remains unclear whether the crew members may have contracted the coronavirus. Once the CMA CGM Ural arrives in Suez on January 30, medical professionals will be able to conduct tests to diagnose the illness accurately.

On February 5th, the CMA CGM Group proudly took delivery of two new vessels, the CMA CGM LOIRE and the CMA CGM URAL, enhancing its fleet. Officially entering service on February 13th and 14th respectively, these vessels are the fifth and sixth additions to a remarkable series that will include a total of 28 ships, each with a capacity ranging from 9,400 TEUs to 10,900 TEUs. This expansion is part of CMA CGM's ongoing strategy, with the remaining vessels set to be delivered through the third quarter of 2016. The series of ships, named after some of the world's most renowned rivers, began production with the CMA CGM DANUBE, CMA CGM ELBE, CMA CGM LITANI, and CMA CGM TIGRIS, which were delivered starting June 30, 2014. The newly acquired CMA CGM LOIRE, constructed at DSIC shipyards in Dalian, PRC, boasts a nominal capacity of 9,365 TEUs, while her counterpart, the CMA CGM URAL, crafted at NTS in Jiangsu, PRC, holds an impressive capacity of 10,622 TEUs. Both vessels are registered under the Malta flag and are chartered by the CMA CGM Group, reinforcing the company's commitment to expanding its operational capabilities in the maritime industry.
