A Filipino crew member aboard the merchant ship MV CMA CGM Cassiopeia faced a medical emergency after suffering a leg fracture on Monday afternoon. Due to inclement weather conditions, an airlift was deemed unfeasible by the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM). In response, the vessel was directed to maneuver closer to Marsaxlokk Harbour for a safer evacuation. Subsequently, the AFM deployed a Melita-class maritime rescue launch, successfully retrieving the injured sailor. He was then transported by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital for prompt medical attention.
