On January 30, 2014, a maritime incident unfolded as the container ship 'NYK Themis' collided with the towed barge 'AZ Fuzhou' in the East Keppel Fairway, located two miles south of Marina South. The 'AZ Fuzhou' was being towed by the tugboat 'AZ Carnation' at the time of the incident. The 'NYK Themis', which had departed Singapore on January 29 and was en route to Laem Chabang with an expected arrival on January 31, sustained damage, including a puncture in a bunker tank, leading to a minor oil spill. In response to the situation, four vessels were deployed by the port authority, along with oil spill response teams, to manage the cleanup operations. Fortunately, both involved vessels managed to anchor safely and were reported to be in stable condition following the collision.
