Fortunately, the onboard CO2 firefighting system effectively extinguished the flames by saturating the affected area with carbon dioxide, thus preventing further spread of the fire. However, the incident resulted in the vessel's container power supply being disabled. As a consequence, the 'Viking Merlin' was required to remain in port until necessary repairs could be completed.
