In a significant development for Ecuadorean exporters, CMA CGM has launched a new shipping service that promises a more efficient route to the booming Chinese market. The Post Panamax vessel, GANGES, boasting a capacity of 9,962 TEUs, made history by docking at the Liberator Bolivar Port in Guayaquil on August 31. This vessel is the largest ever to anchor at the terminal, measuring 300 meters in length and drawing a maximum draft of 14.5 meters. However, due to the port's depth of just 9.75 meters, CEO Javier Moreira explained that GANGES will limit its load to 4,000 containers during its stay in Guayaquil. Having arrived from China with a diverse cargo including electronics, toys, and various consumer goods, GANGES is slated for a return journey to Mexico and then on to South Korea and China, carrying 2,800 TEUs of which a portion will be Ecuadorean bananas. Notably, GANGES is equipped to transport up to 1,500 refrigerated containers, making it a pivotal asset for perishable goods exporters. With an estimated worth of $95 million, GANGES is expected to dock at the port every two months, marking a new era in international trade for Ecuadorean businesses.
