On December 2, 2010, the Coast Guard, in collaboration with Amver (Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue), successfully rescued four individuals stranded on a capsized trimaran in the Atlantic Ocean. The incident involved the French-flagged vessel, known as 'Nim', which had overturned approximately 1,000 miles east-southeast of Bermuda. The Coast Guard's 5th District responded to a distress signal from a 406 emergency position-indicating radio beacon, relayed by the Grig-Nez Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in France. Remarkably, despite the situation, the sailors remained safe, keeping themselves atop the overturned hull of their 50-foot trimaran. Utilizing the Amver system, the Coast Guard quickly reached out to the 'CMA CGM La Scala', which promptly adjusted its course to provide assistance. Upon arrival at the scene, the crew of the 'CMA CGM La Scala' initially reported not finding the four sailors. However, their quick actions soon led to the successful recovery of the missing crew, who were subsequently brought aboard the vessel, ensuring their safety amidst the perilous conditions.
